The boys and I went to Utah for a couple weeks for my brothers wedding. (Which I will post pictures from when I get them from my mom.) During the course of our travels, the boys did many different things to keep us amused, and I thought I would share a few.
Vance-Vance gained a new level of communication while we were gone. He started to answer questions that you asked him, with a yeah or a no. This has been very nice, even though he tells me "NO!" quite a bit. It has been easier to figure out what he wants. I love watching his vocabulary grow. He has become quite the talker.
One Sunday while we were in Utah, we were watching the Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcast. You know how when you watch the choir, you can hear all the voices together, but not separately? When you see one person singing, you can't hear their individual voice? Well, Vance must have noticed this too. He was sitting on a chair, being pretty quiet. So we looked over at him, and he was moving his lips like he was singing, but not a sound was coming out! He was completely concentrating on doing what the choir members where doing. It was so funny! I don't know if my description does it justice.
Miles-I mentioned to the boys that our flight out to Utah was going to be pretty late, and that they should sleep on the plane. Miles did not think this was a good idea. He told me REPEATEDLY that has going to stay up ALL night. So later, when we were about an hour into the flight, when he let out a huge yawn. Then he noticed that I had witnessed this yawn, and sternly told me"That was NOT a yawn!" Then he continued to remind me he was not going to fall asleep. Guess who won this argument?
While we were in the airport in Cincinnati, we spent a lot of time on the moving walkway. Every time I stopped the stroller, Vance would scream, so we had to keep moving. At one point while riding the moving walkway, we saw an older boy sitting on the black rail of the moving walkway, using it as some sort of ride. Miles looked at me, and in very loud, and very clear voice, stated, "Mom, that's a safety violation!" Some of you will know that he got this from the Disney Channel. The boys have been a bit obsessive with safety lately(not that I'm complaining.) Ever since the airport incident, they have been pointing out safety violations to me. We took the boys to a jazz festival in downtown Lansing the other day. The festival was on a street that they had blocked off. Mason did not like this. He kept demanding that we get off the road, and back off the sidewalk.
Mason-Mason is very attached to my mom and dad, and he was not ready to leave when the trip was over. So, he told me that he was going to live in Utah. "But don't worry mom," he told me, "I'll come visit you in October." It took quite a while to convince him that he was not going to get to stay in Utah, and that he had to come home with me. He was not very happy. I'm very glad he loves his grandparents, but what am I, chopped liver????
All in all, we had a really great time. I am grateful for my boys, and how good they really are.
